Oh Scrap! : Sew Day Preparation from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

This week, I have gone back to cutting in preparation for a Sew Day Fundraiser we are having September 20th.  I will have more specific information soon.  I try to only do the cutting in spurts and then let my shoulders rest.  I have plenty of time to get it all prepared.

I have been pulling any and all scraps we have that will work for kid blocks.  I have already cut the 4.5" squares and now I am working on the 2.5" strips.  As I am sorting scraps, any that make a good binding candidate are getting ...

Oh Scrap! : More Cutting from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I am still cutting up scraps for the Sew Day we will hold locally in September for Many Hands and Many Hearts.  I finished cutting all the 4.5" squares, now I am moving on to the 2.5" strips.

As I go through the giant pile of scraps, first I am pulling out anything big that I can turn into binding strips.  With the rest, I am cutting into 2.5" strips and sub-cutting them to 8.5" long and 4.5" long.  I need two of each length for every block.  I am using s safety pin to ...

Sharing some Littles from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I thought I would share some little quilts today...

The top on this quilt is just a panel that Nann sent to us.  I didn't even add a border.  I thought it looked great just the way it is.

Check out this cute quilt made from Happy Blocks.  I would not have thought to group the colors like that - I like it!  The label fell off, but I think Marci sent in this quilt top.

For the string quilt lovers...The strings on this one finish at 1/2".  I think it looks amazing.  Karen sent in both the ...

It's Friday! from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

The end of the week is finally here so it is time to share some more finishes.

Let's start off with this fun scrappy log cabin quilt top sent in by Karen.  Each block starts with about a 4" novelty square.  It is super cute!

Karen also sent in the lime green backing fabric.  I love it when I see these scrappy quilts!

This quilt started out as a layercake donated by Karen.  I sent it off to Charlene to sew up into a quilt top.  The pattern is super simple.  Holly sent in this dark red and navy ...

It's the Weekend! from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

It has been another busy week.  Next Wednesday is a board meeting so it is always a lot of work getting ready for those.

But the quilts keep crossing the finish line!

We are finally close to having all of these Jewel Box quilts completed.  I think there are just four more tops that need quilting.

Jeanne sewed up these blocks into a quilt top.  I love seeing all the colors in one quilt.  Nann sent in this lovely fabric that was perfect for the back.  I don't remember how many quilts we expected from this block drive but ...

Oh Scrap! : Inspiration from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

You cannot handle as many quilts as I do and not be continually inspired!

I have been rolling around an idea in my brain - I want to do a sew day where quilters show up with their machines and we make a bunch of blocks and maybe quilt tops for Many Hands and Many Hearts.  I have been thinking about this for about a year.  Tons of block ideas have been pondered but nothing really got me excited or was easily adaptable for the fabric bits and pieces we have around here.

Until last week...I received the above quilt ...

The First Split 4-Patches from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

The current block drive is the Split 4_patch in bright colors for kids.  We added some to the Happy Blocks we made in our last kids' block drive....

Here is the first quilt!

Don't they look fabulous together?

This quilt has a fun fruit theme.  Lots of pink so we just decided to add a pink flannel that Kristin sent for the back.  Really looking forward to playing more with these blocks.

This quilt measures 56" x 64".

I admit, we just got this top and backing from Cindy.  But I loved it so much, I put it right ...

Starting Out with a Bang! from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

The year has barely started and I already have a lot of quilts to share.

Happy Block quilts are still trickling through.  This fun one is all about the things you see in the ocean.  My friend Jeanne sewed up the blocks and the backing for me.  The back used up a lot of bits and pieces donated by Lynnette and Dorothy. The print with the kids snorkeling is adorable!  According to my count, this is the 98th quilt made from that drive.  We are getting close to my 100 quilt goal.

Here is another Jewel Box quilt - these blocks ...

Some Late Friday Finishes from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I said I would share some Friday finishes with you - but I didn't say at what time.  I seem to be still running about a day behind for some reason.  It was kind of a messed up day.  I did need to get a plumber out to my house.  I have been almost a week without being able to do much laundry or dishes.  I was originally going to fix it myself but I finally gave in and just hired someone.

Even with all that, we still had a few more quilts get over the finish line. Local quilter ...

Jewel Box - First Quilt Finish and More from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I had so many quilts to share this week but I just didn't have the energy to write up a blog post.  With it being Friday, I thought a special post was needed.  Today we have the first finish from the current block drive.  I also added a couple finishes from previous block drives.

Cheryl actually sent in this finished quilt top made from the Jewel Box blocks.  I love how she used just purple and green blocks.  The diagonal setting is nice too.

There could not have been a better backing than the fabric sent in by Nann ...

Small Quilts from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I have been pushing a number of baby quilts through the pipeline to increase the number of quilts we are able to donate to Bags of Love.  I will be delivering 25 quilts tomorrow.

This first quilt top was made by Penny.  She has been cleaning out her flannel stash and making a bunch of strip quilts.  This type of quilts uses up a lot of those width of fabric leftovers.  She also sent the backing and the binding.

This quilt measures about 40 x 42".

(The young lady behind the post is Lecretia.  She has also been helping out ...

Oh My Goodness - I have lots of finishes for you today!

This first one is another Happy Block Quilt.  This one was not made from the block drive - this quilt top was sent in by Mari.  The little woodland animals in the centers are adorable.

Thanks to Deana, we had the perfect flannel for the back - more woodland animals!

This one measures 32 x 40".

The blocks for this space themed quilt did come from the block drive.

Both of these fabrics for the back were given to me by my friend Julie a long time ago.  It was nice ...

Now that my space for Many Hands and Many Hearts is a little more organized, I am getting back to some of the blocks from the current and previous block drives.

We had to use this fun sunflower and cat faces print sent in by Dorothy for the backing.

This quilt measures 60 x 68".

Janet laid out these blocks for me.  Quilt #14 measures 51 x 68".

Back to Happy Block Quilts from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

There are still a number of Happy Blocks to assemble into quilts so I spent some time one afternoon to make some quilt tops from them.

First up is this cute infant or toddler quilt made from baby-ish prints.

This one measures 40 x 40".

I had this adorable backing that fit the quilt nicely.  It has a very fun vintage feel.

This is Happy Quilt #79.

Wendy sent in this adorable cowboy boot print.  This quilt is also 40" square.

More Happy Quilts from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I am still working through blocks I received for the Happy Block drive.  Soon it will be time to schedule another drive for kids.

I really want to get these done - they are stacked all over the place!

This is Happy Block quilt #76.  It has castles, princesses, knights, dragons and unicorns.  I think there might even be a mermaid or two.  The little girl in me loves this one.

On the back is Tinkerbell.

This quilt measures 48" square.

Quilt #77 is all about monkeys!

I knew I was going to have to let go of a print I ...

Finally, I had a chance to put together a post with all the recent finishes.
There is a little bit of everything in this post!

This Happy Zoo Animals quilt is the 75th quilt we made from the block drive.  This one has been out getting the binding sewn on by Chris.

I don't think this will be the last zoo animal quilt we see; I think there is a still a small stack of blocks.

I love, love, love this backing fabric that Helen sent in.

This quilt measures 48" x 54".

Next up is this lovely green ...

One More Stix and Happy Quilt #72 from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

My focus this week was on finishing some of the Churn Dash quilts.  I will share those on Friday.  Today are some miscellaneous quilts I don't want you to miss.

First up is this cute construction quilt.  There are so many adorable prints in these happy blocks.

My good friend Jeanne sewed the blocks together and local quilter Cindy quilted this one up for me.
All I had to do was sew on the binding.

Karen sent in this fun backing.  It really finished off the quilt nicely.

This quilt measures 40 x 48"

Mid Week Finishes from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Here we go!

Catching up a bit on some finished quilts.  I had to go back and make sure all the finished quilts had labels sewn onto them.  I think I am now all caught up.

This school themed quilt is the 70th quilt made from the Happy Block quilt drive.  This top was put together by a friend of mine and then Laura did a great job quilting it up.  Laura even sewed on the binding.  I just had to add the label!

Two fun prints on the back side.  This quilt measure 56" x 64".

Moving on to ...
